Valdemierque
Village
Valdemierque is a municipality of 58 inhabitants in the comarca of Tierra de Alba, province of Salamanca, whose economy today rests on cattle and pig farming and on agriculture. It is documented as Val de Mielec in the repopulation carried out by the kings of León in the Middle Ages, within the Allende el Río quarter of the jurisdiction of Alba de Tormes. At the entrance to the village, coming from Alba de Tormes, the remains of La Mina are preserved, known successively as Marthe, Concordia and Incógnita, worked from the mid-19th century and at its peak between 1920 and 1950, when it extracted tin, wolfram and galena. Since 2007 the Valdemierque 10 km race has been held in August, coinciding with the feast of San Roque, the village's patron saint, on the 16th.
