Villoldo
Village
Villoldo is a village of about 335 inhabitants beside the Carrión river, in Tierra de Campos, which also groups together the hamlets of Castrillejo de la Olma and Villanueva del Río. Its church of San Esteban dates from the 16th century, and the bridge over the Carrión, of ancient origin though much altered, took its current classicist form after an early 19th-century restoration; it also preserves the hermitage of San Antonio. The main festivities, in honour of San Esteban, are celebrated on 3 August and the following days, taking advantage of the return to the village of numerous emigrants, together with that of San Antonio de Padua on 13 June. Its traditional sweets, amarguillos, tocinillo de cielo and almendrados, are still made in the town, which has two hotel establishments and a restaurant.
