Perales
Village
Perales is a municipality of around 110 inhabitants in Tierra de Campos, with the hamlets of Villafruela and Villaldavín, bordering Paredes de Nava, Becerril de Campos, San Cebrián de Campos and Manquillos. In its territory the monastery of Santa María de Perales was founded in 1160, the work of counts Nuño Pérez de Lara and Teresa Fernández de Traba, where prince Sancho Fernández de León, known as el Cañamero, son of king Fernando II de León and half-brother of Alfonso IX, was buried. In December 1595 the Cistercian nuns living there abandoned the monastery and moved with their belongings to the Real Monasterio de San Joaquín y Santa Ana, in Valladolid.
