San Cebrián de Campos
Village
San Cebrián de Campos is a village in the Palencia Tierra de Campos, situated east of the Carrión river, in an irrigated area bounded by the Márgenes Izquierda and Derecha canals. Formerly known as San Cebrián de las Amayuelas, it was resettled in the 10th century under its Carta Puebla, granted by Gutier Fernández and his wife Toda Díaz, subject to the charter of Monzón. Its Gothic church of San Cornelio y San Cipriano, from the 13th century and with ribbed vaults, was declared a Conjunto Histórico (Historic Site, a Spanish heritage-protection designation for a whole urban or architectural ensemble) in 1994; inside are preserved several Baroque and Rococo altarpieces, among them a notable carving of Santa Ana by Alejo de Vahía and 17th-century works by the sculptor J. Rozas, such as a Virgin and Child and a Jesús Nazareno. It has about 400 inhabitants.
