What to see and do in Villarmentero de Campos

Villarmentero de Campos
Village
Villarmentero de Campos is a hamlet of barely twenty-six inhabitants in the province of Palencia, at 831 metres above sea level, on the stretch of the French Way that runs from Frómista to Carrión de los Condes; in 1850 it had as many as 146 inhabitants, and until 1916 the municipality was simply called Villarmentero. Its parish church preserves an octagonal Mudéjar coffered ceiling from the 15th century, in unpainted wood with a carved pine cone at its centre. An old local legend tells that the relics of Saint Martin of Tours arrived here on the back of a great pack animal. It is also the birthplace of the journalist Jesús Cacho, founder in 1991 of El Confidencial and chairman of the digital newspaper Vozpópuli.
