Lomas
Village
Lomas is a hamlet in Tierra de Campos, in the province of Palencia, with around forty inhabitants, situated between the Carrión and Ucieza rivers, which lost seventy percent of its population in barely thirty years. Its name comes from the Latin Lombas, the elongated hill to the northeast of the village on which the hermitage of San Cristóbal stands, from 1539, and which since 2013 has had a sixteen-metre viewpoint. It is the only settlement left in the municipality since a plague depopulated the neighbouring village of Fuentemuñoz in the early 15th century. Its houses, made of adobe and a single storey, typical of Tierra de Campos, are grouped into small blocks laid out in an almost star-shaped pattern. Its economy is based on growing dryland cereals, such as wheat, barley and oats.
