Villaturde
Village
Villaturde is a municipality in the Tierra de Campos comarca, in the province of Palencia, eight kilometres from Carrión de los Condes and near the Autovía del Camino de Santiago, which groups together with its main settlement the villages of Villacuende, Villanueva de los Nabos and Villotilla. In 1278 it received a carta puebla from the Hospital de la Herrada, with Frey Marcos as commander. In the mid-19th century it had 130 inhabitants, according to Madoz; today it has around 150. It celebrates its main festival in honour of Nuestra Señora on 15 August, with a popular paella, and before spring the traditional suckling-pig matanza is held.
