Villaherreros
Village
Villaherreros is a village in Tierra de Campos, in the province of Palencia, whose name recalls the blacksmiths who, having become small landowners after the resettlement, probably populated it as early as the last third of the 9th century, when the infante García resettled, by order of Alfonso III, nearby places such as Carrión, Sahagún or Cisneros. It appears in the Becerro de las Behetrías of 1351 as Villa ferreros, with a tax of 42 maravedís higher than the average for the merindad of Monzón, to which it belonged. Near the village lay Vallarna, a depopulated settlement of pre-Roman origin on the route of the road between Carrión and Osorno. With about 210 inhabitants at 840 metres above sea level, it preserves the Romanesque doorway of San Román, the palace of the Count of Cervellón and its wine cellars.
