What to see and do in Osorno la Mayor

Osorno la Mayor
Village
Municipality in the Tierra de Campos comarca, in Palencia, which brings together the settlements of Osorno, Santillana de Campos, Villadiezma and Las Cabañas de Castilla, with around 1,160 inhabitants; it arose from the merger of these four villages in 1973. It sits at a crossroads between the northern plateau and Cantabria, and between Burgos and León, with a station on the Palencia-Santander railway line. It is watered by the río Valdavia, also called Abánades, and by the Boedo to the north, and the Vallarna to the south. Within its municipal area lies the site of Dessobriga, inhabited since the Iron Age, and the Canal de Castilla crosses it from north to south, overcoming the terrain with the Abánades aqueduct. In the 15th century the nicknames La Mayor and La Menor were coined to distinguish Osorno from Osornillo.
