What to see and do in San Mamés de Campos

San Mamés de Campos
Village
San Mamés de Campos is a hamlet in the Palencia stretch of Tierra de Campos, with around forty-five inhabitants against the 478 it had in 1900, situated at 822 metres of altitude on the Camino de Santiago del Norte, on the Ruta del Besaya. Through its municipal area pass remains of the Roman road from Bordeaux to Astorga, with paved stretches visible toward Villaherreros. Its ermita de San Juan, the village's original church, now deconsecrated, preserves a late Romanesque doorway. The parish church of San Mamés, from the 16th century, has three naves with groin vaults and holds several Baroque and Rococo altarpieces, among them a Berruguete-style sculpture of San Sebastián.
