Marcilla de Campos
Village
Marcilla de Campos is a hamlet in the province of Palencia, in the Tierra de Campos comarca, with 60 inhabitants according to the 2025 register. Its name comes from the Latin Marcus, probably a resettler, with the diminutive -illa. In the Los Cantos area a Roman site was found with tegulae, imbrices and pottery remains. According to the Becerro de las Behetrías of 1352 it belonged to the Hermandad de Monzón as a possession of the monastery of las Huelgas de Burgos, on which it continued to depend as a lordship village until the mid-18th century. It preserves the church of la Asunción, with three naves and dating from the late 16th century, with plateresque altarpieces, an 18th-century organ and typical Castilian wine cellars beside the natural site of the Laguna.
