Villacidaler
Village
Villacidaler is a hamlet in the Palencia stretch of Tierra de Campos, with around forty-five inhabitants, raised on a hill at 786 metres beside the río Sequillo, on land devoted to cereal farming and included in the La Nava-Campos Norte bird protection area. Its place name, already recorded in the 10th century, is of Mozarabic origin and combines the Arabic cid, lord, with a proper name. The church of San Adrián, from the 16th century and remodelled in the 18th, has a single nave of rammed earth and brick with a barrel vault; it holds Baroque and Rococo altarpieces and a main altarpiece by a disciple of Berruguete. It also preserves the ermita de Nuestra Señora de la Carrera and the Fuente del Caño.
