What to see and do in Escobar de Campos

Escobar de Campos
Village
Escobar de Campos is a hamlet of barely thirty residents on the banks of the río Sequillo, in the Leonese Tierra de Campos, a little over seventy kilometres from León. In the 14th-century Becerro de las Behetrías it appeared as the seigneury of Inés Remírez, and until the 1916 reform of municipal nomenclature it was called simply Escobar. It preserves the church of San Clemente and the hermitage of Nuestra Señora de la Vega, and in December 1961 the flooding of the Sequillo submerged its sown land. It is linked to Sahagún and to the CL-611 road by a local road, with access also from Grajal de Campos and Villelga.

Historical milestone
The register, of 1352, records the village as the manorial estate of Inés Remírez, daughter of Diego Remírez: its households paid the king servicios and monedas but neither martiniega nor yantar, and paid their lady eighty maravedís and four dineros per house as humazga (hearth tax).
