Moncalvillo
Village
Moncalvillo is a municipality of 77 inhabitants in the Sierra de la Demanda, whose name comes from a nearby mountain, La Calvilla, on whose summit vegetation is scarce. The village lies on the banks of the Ciruelos river, surrounded by hills of the Iberian System: the Alto El Otero, with the television antenna; la Buitrera, with large stones where bonfires used to be lit; la Cabezada, of rocks and small caves; and Cuesta La Horca, where the church of San Pedro Apóstol stands, next to which the Amachim-Vertical-Brada cycling race was run until 2013. Its church holds a Churrigueresque altarpiece from 1746, and in the village there is a monument in the shape of twin towers to a resident who died in the 2001 attacks.
