What to see and do in Palacios de la Sierra

Palacios de la Sierra
Village
Palacios de la Sierra is a municipality in the comarca of Sierra de la Demanda, in the province of Burgos, situated at 1068 metres above sea level on the sunny slope of the sierra de Neila, watered by the Arlanza river and its tributaries the Abejón and the Bañuelos. It is part of the Mancomunidad Alta Sierra de Pinares, together with Vilviestre del Pinar, Canicosa de la Sierra, Regumiel de la Sierra, Neila and Quintanar de la Sierra. At the site of El Castillo the largest early medieval necropolis in Spain was excavated, with 566 graves from the 11th to the 13th centuries, adding to two other early medieval necropolises located in its territory; since 2011 an interpretation centre in the village recalls this past. Its carnival is celebrated by virtue of a papal bull of 1661. It has 662 inhabitants.

The carnival and Corpus Christi born from a papal bull
Activity
A papal bull of 1661 fixed the village's two great festivals: the carnival joined to the feast of the Blessed Sacrament on Quinquagesima Sunday, and Corpus with decorated altars and children who scatter petals in its path.
