Cabezón de la Sierra
Village
Cabezón de la Sierra is a hamlet of 33 inhabitants in the comarca of La Demanda y Pinares, where the first section of the Santander-Mediterranean railway from Burgos arrived on 13 August 1927, with the head of government, the Marquis of Estella, in attendance; the second section, as far as Soria, was inaugurated in 1929, and on this stretch scenes from the film Las petroleras (1971) were shot, with Brigitte Bardot and Claudia Cardinale. The line was closed in 1984. The village had electric light from 1926, although running water did not arrive until the 1980s. It preserves an early medieval necropolis with anthropomorphic graves at Peña Los Sepulcros and remains of fossilised trees, and in August it holds a procession with the pilgrim cow of Saint Roch followed by a popular caldereta stew.
