Arauzo de Miel
Village
Arauzo de Miel is a municipality of the province of Burgos (Castilla y León), in the Sierra de la Demanda, which includes the settlement of Doña Santos and is already documented in 1062 as Arabuzo de Gomielle. More than half of its territory lies within the Sabinares del Arlanza Special Protection Area for Birds, among crags, juniper groves and black pine woods from the resin-tapping era, with specimens of griffon vulture and Egyptian vulture; the highest point is the Pinareja, at 1,226 metres, and from Mount San Cristóbal, at 1,186 metres, a viewpoint overlooks the Castilian meseta. With 260 inhabitants, the village was the workplace of the naturalist Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente, who arrived in 1955 in search of the goshawk and filmed episodes of El Hombre y la Tierra there, among them “El pirata de la espesura”; in 2022 conferences and a plaque restored its memory.
