Tubilla del Lago
Village
Tubilla del Lago is a municipality of 164 inhabitants on the course of the Gromejón river, whose name refers to the calcareous tufa abundant in the area; the lake that gave it its surname has disappeared. Already documented in the year 912, in the 16th century it belonged to the lordship of the Alcocer family, a Castilian-Navarrese lineage from the Montes de Oca. It preserves Romanesque remains in its parish church and the ruins of a castle. Since 2017 a group of local artists has decorated the village walls with murals; the largest, the work of local artist José Luis Abajo Fernández, known as Porrilló, covers 318 m² and is the largest in Castile and León. On 25 April the feast of Saint Mark is celebrated, with a procession to its hermitage, dances and a country meal.
