What to see and do in Baños de Valdearados

Baños de Valdearados
Village
Baños de Valdearados is a municipality of 322 inhabitants in the Burgos comarca of La Ribera, 16 kilometres from Aranda de Duero, watered by the Bañuelos river and devoted chiefly to vineyards and cereal crops. Its name refers to ancient baths, fed by the so-called Fuente de la Salud, which came to light together with the Roman villa of Santa Cruz, discovered by chance in November 1972 and famed for its highly valuable mosaics dedicated to Bacchus. The village also preserves the neoclassical church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, with a portal of Renaissance influence, and several 16th- and 17th-century ermitas. Every summer it holds a Roman festival in honour of the god of wine, in addition to its patronal festivities in mid-August.
The mosaic of Bacchus
Curiosity
The Roman villa of Santa Cruz appeared by chance in November 1972 some three hundred metres from the village. Its mosaic of the 5th century, dedicated to the god of wine, gave its name to the site, declared an archaeological zone in 1994.
