What to see and do in Navatalgordo

Navatalgordo
Village
Navatalgordo is a town of around 230 inhabitants situated at 1262 metres above sea level, in the heart of the Sierra de Gredos, in the district of the Alberche Valley and Tierra de Pinares in Ávila province. Its founding dates back to around 1110, when Blasco Ximeno repopulated the places known as the Navas de Ávila by order of Alfonso XI, and around 1350 the knight Gil Blázquez rebuilt them, among them Nava el Talgordo, the origin of the present-day name. On the night of 7 September, the ronda held to be the oldest in the province sings to the Virgen de la Canaleja, and the following day a pilgrimage attended by hundreds of people from across the province marks its patronal festivals. The village prides itself on its peaches and good market gardens, with a great variety of vegetables and greens, and a home-made red wine.

Food and drink
Despite the 1,262 metres of altitude, the district keeps peach trees and vines from which comes a home-made red wine; both products remain the characteristic agricultural contribution of the municipality.
