What to see and do in Navarredondilla

Navarredondilla
Village
Navarredondilla is a hamlet in the province of Ávila situated in the Sierra de la Paramera, within the Sistema Central, in the Alberche district. It was called Navarredonda until the end of the seventeenth century, and owes its added name, like so many "navas" of the area — flat land between mountains —, to the rounded shape of its territory. Tradition attributes its founding to Blasco Ximeno, around 1120, when the king sent him along with his brother to repopulate the Navas de Ávila, a process that Gil Blázquez would complete two centuries later by order of Alfonso XI. It belonged ecclesiastically to the Abbey of Burgohondo until the nineteenth century; a papal bull of 1178 already mentions the monastery of Santa María del Burgo on which it depended. Today it has around 146 inhabitants.

Curiosity
Graves cut into the rock with a human outline and pottery remains attest to Visigothic settlement in this district of 20.27 square kilometres of the Sierra de la Paramera, much earlier than the resettlements of the 12th century.
