Navalacruz
Village
Navalacruz is a village in the district of the Alberche Valley and Tierra de Pinares, in the province of Ávila, wedged between the Sierra de la Paramera, to the north, and the Sierra de Gredos, to the south, separated by dehesas beside the Chiquillo stream; the village stands at 1238 metres, in a municipal area whose altitude reaches 2134 metres. It has around 192 inhabitants, well below the 656 recorded in the mid-nineteenth century by Madoz's Diccionario. Nature
The village, at 1,238 metres, is set between the sierra de la Paramera to the north and that of Gredos to the south, in a corridor of pastures and granite outcrops that has lost population without let-up: from 656 inhabitants in the middle of the 19th century to fewer than two hundred today.
