What to see and do in Navarrevisca

Navarrevisca
Village
A village in the Sierra de Gredos, in the district of Burgohondo-El Tiemblo-Cebreros, province of Ávila, situated in the Alto Alberche area at 1129 m above sea level; its streams flow down to the garganta Fernandina, a tributary of the Alberche river. It has around 281 inhabitants, against the 858 recorded by Madoz in the mid-nineteenth century. Besides the patronal festivals of the Virgen de las Angustias, on 15 September, and of San Antonio, on 13 June, on the eve of All Saints' it celebrates the Moragá — an Arabic word referring to roasting over an open wood fire — a medieval tradition related to the magostos of northern Spain, in which residents share roasted chestnuts and lemonade around bonfires.
The Fernandina gorge
Nature
The springs and streams of the district come together in this gorge, which ends by giving its waters to the Alberche. Around it are stepped pine woods, oak woods and grazing meadows at 1,129 metres of altitude.
The Niñato of the conscripts (straw effigy)
Curiosity
Before Semana Santa the conscripts parade a straw-stuffed figure they call the Niñato, a recollection of the send-off of the young men who left for military service; the custom is still alive in the village's calendar.
The livestock fair and the market gardeners' fair
Activity
The municipality keeps up two commercial events of agrarian root: the market gardeners' fair at the beginning of September and the livestock fair at the beginning of October, heirs of the deals that were closed in the square.
