What to see and do in Navaquesera

Navaquesera
Village
Navaquesera is a hamlet of 38 inhabitants in the abulense comarca of Burgohondo - El Tiemblo - Cebreros, north of the Alberche river; at over 1500 metres of altitude, it is one of the highest villages in Spain, surrounded by boulder fields and broom scrub, with views of the eastern massif of Gredos and the sierra de la Paramera. Until its parish church of la Asunción was built, in the late 15th century, its residents went down to be baptised, hear mass and bury their dead at the abbey of Burgohondo. Its inhabitants have traditionally worked in livestock farming on the rich pastures of the surrounding area. On the square stand a sturdy town hall with stone benches and steep streets; the village's coat of arms recalls, with nine towers, the nine places of the old council of Burgohondo.
Church of la Asunción de Navaquesera
Monument
It was not raised until the end of the 15th century; before that the residents went down to the abbey of Burgohondo for services. It has a single nave with access on the south side and a stone tower of two sections topped by a two-bay belfry.
