What to see and do in Mijares

Mijares
Village
Mijares is a village in the Tiétar valley, in the province of Ávila, with about 718 inhabitants and at 848 metres above sea level; in the mid-19th century Madoz's Diccionario credited it with 767 inhabitants. It has a church dedicated to San Bartolomé, whose feast is held in late August, alongside that of the Virgen de la Sangre in September. Its most singular tradition is the fiesta de los Quintos, held on the second and third weekends of March, with its tortillas and rosquillas, and its El Mogote cooperative markets chestnuts, figs, cherries and oil.
The sundial of San Bartolomé
Curiosity
The parish church, of the 17th century, displays a sundial on its façade and holds the high altar brought from another church, that of the abandoned settlement of Las Torres. The village's coat of arms bears engraved the date of its villa status, MDCLXXIX.
