Sotalbo
Village
Sotalbo is a municipality of Ávila with about 235 inhabitants, situated right in the valley of Amblés, which includes part of the dehesa de los Baldíos of Ávila and of the sierra de la Paramera, crowned by the Pico Zapatero, at 2,158 metres, from where a path climbs to the summit. Its church, dedicated to Our Lady of the Purification, dates from the 16th century. Very close by stands the castle of Manqueospese, built in the 15th century and linked by legend to the impossible love between an exiled count of Sotalbo and the daughter of don Sancho Dávila, and which belonged to the village until 1958. Three kilometres away lies the castro of Ulaca, from the second Iron Age. The territory also preserves old water mills by the river and the Fuente de Aguas Frías, a spring at the foot of the Pico Zapatero.
