Romanones
Village
Romanones is a municipality in the comarca of La Alcarria, in the province of Guadalajara, with 127 inhabitants, situated between the valley of the San Andrés river, where the village sits, and the vega of the Tajuña; the San Andrés has carved out a valley here that reaches nearly 1,000 metres of altitude. Its hills of Aleppo pine, holm oak and olive groves give way to vegas of cereal and irrigated land. A hamlet of the alfoz of Guadalajara during the Middle Ages, its residents bought the right to town status from King Philip II in 1560 for 6,500 maravedís each. It retains the church of San Pedro, from the 17th century, and the manor house of the Figueroa family, and celebrates its main festivities from 8 to 11 September and the bonfires of the Immaculate Conception on 7 December.
