Renera
Village
Renera is a municipality in the comarca of La Alcarria, in the province of Guadalajara, with a population of 100 inhabitants, situated in the narrow passage between the Alcarria tableland and the valley of the Vega stream, a tributary of the Tajuña; because of this its houses stretch out avoiding the lowest part of the vega, exposed to flooding. Formerly called Ranera, after the reconquest it depended on the fuero of Guadalajara until its residents bought the privilege of town status from Emperor Charles V in 1543. Its church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción was begun in the mid-16th century, finished in the 17th and restored in 2009; it also retains the ermitas of las Angustias and de la Purísima Concepción and, beside the road to Hueva, the remains of an old medieval mill, today almost gone.
