Godojos
Village
Godojos is a small municipality in the Comunidad de Calatayud, in the province of Zaragoza, with 55 inhabitants, on mountainous terrain between Alhama de Aragón, Jaraba and Nuévalos. From antiquity until the second half of the 20th century, its main economic activity was garnacha wine, stored in cellars dug into a nearby hill and sold to people from the surrounding area and from the highlands of Castile. At the top stands the torre-castillo de los Señores, a Gothic stone fortification linked to the Heredia and Luna lineages, and on the square rises the baroque church of the Purísima Concepción, with a decorated brick tower. It also has three hermitages, dedicated to the Virgen de la Esperanza, Santa Ana and San Jorge; the patron saint festivities, in honour of San Gregorio, are held on 9 May.
