What to see and do in Castejón de las Armas

Castejón de las Armas
Village
Castejón de las Armas is a small municipality in the Comunidad de Calatayud comarca, in the province of Zaragoza, with barely 87 inhabitants, situated at 609 metres in altitude near the confluence of the Piedra and Jalón rivers, which split the village in two. The Piedra river, famous for its trout, irrigates the vega and flows past La Chichulana, the highest point in the village, which overlooks much of the comarca. The municipality's name, formerly Castejón de Ateca, comes from the manufacture of well-tempered bladed weapons documented as early as 1495, which in the 16th century produced swords famous throughout the comarca. It preserves remains of the 14th-century castle, the Gothic church of El Salvador, from 1280, and the chapel of the Virgen del Cerro, rebuilt in the 17th century.
