What to see and do in Marracos

Marracos
Village
Marracos, in the Zaragoza Cinco Villas, is documented since 1097, when King Pedro I granted the women's monastery of Santa Cruz de la Serós several holdings in the place. In May 1837 the Royal Expedition of the Carlist pretender Carlos María Isidro de Borbón passed through the town, during the First Carlist War. In 1845 it was absorbed into the territory of Piedratajada, from which it was not separated until 27 June 1988, becoming Aragon's 730th municipality. It preserves the parish church of Santa Catalina, Romanesque and rebuilt with Gothic canons after being struck by lightning, and in its territory the Lobo hydroelectric plant has operated since 1904, on the river Gállego. Marracos, with 82 inhabitants, celebrates its festivities on 22 May and 25 November.
