What to see and do in Luna

Luna
Village
Luna is a municipality of the Zaragoza Cinco Villas, 65 kilometres from Zaragoza, comprising Lacorvilla, Júnez and Lacasta, crossed from north to south by the river Arba de Biel. It has 674 inhabitants (INE 2025). It preserves the castle-palace of the Luna family, or clock tower, together with other strongholds such as the castles of Villaverde, Obano and Yéquera, and the sanctuary of Nuestra Señora de Monlora, destination of a pilgrimage every 1 May. It also has an ashlar windmill of an uncommon shape: of truncated-conical plan, 8 metres high and 16 in perimeter, with a single door and an arrow-slit window. It was the rediscovery in 1977 of the Malanquilla mill that spurred the study of Aragonese windmills. Its main festivities run from 7 to 14 September.
Church of Luna
Monument
Parish church of Santiago y San Miguel, in Luna (Zaragoza), built in Romanesque style in the 12th century with well-squared, good-quality ashlar. It has a single-nave plan with a semicircular apse facing east and a crypt beneath the presbytery; it is covered with a barrel vault and pointed arches divided into four bays. Notable is the corbel decoration, with figures of two musicians, one with a small organistrum and the other with a tambourine, a contortionist and an eagle beside the apse, as well as a chequered frieze of the jaqués type. The western portico opens with three archivolts; in the 17th century side chapels, a sacristy and a raised choir were added. It was declared a Monumento Nacional (former Spanish heritage protection designation, now Bien de Interés Cultural) on 20 July 1974.
Festivities of Luna
Activity
The fiestas mayores of Luna are celebrated from 7 to 14 September; on 1 May the pilgrimage to Nuestra Señora de Monlora, patron saint of the region, is also celebrated.
