Orés
Village
Orés is a municipality of the Cinco Villas, in the province of Zaragoza, with 72 inhabitants, situated at 647 metres of altitude beside the river Orés, at the foot of the sierra de Luna, between the rivers Farasdués and Arba de Biel. Populated already by the Vascones and, from the 8th century BC, by the Suessetani, it was later a border territory between the Christian and Muslim kingdoms, in the hands of the Moors for 210 continuous years until its liberation in the year 933 by Sancho Abarca. It belonged as a hamlet to Luesia until the new-settlement law of the Cortes of Cádiz of 1834. In 1368 it had one hundred and twenty inhabited houses, but its population fell from the 950 inhabitants of 1900 to little more than seventy today, owing to the Civil War and the exodus to the cities.
