What to see and do in Calomarde

Calomarde
Village
Calomarde is a municipality located in the centre of the Sierra de Albarracín, in the province of Teruel, at 1,312 metres above sea level and 50 kilometres from the provincial capital. On 21 June 1257, by privilege of James I, it became part of the Sesma de Frías de Albarracín, within the Comunidad de Santa María de Albarracín, directly dependent on the king; this regime, with its seat today in Tramacastilla, is the only one that survived the 1837 dissolution decree. It preserves a church under the patronage of San Pedro Apóstol. Nearby one can visit the Molino Viejo waterfall, or Cascada Batida, and the gorge of the Río Blanco ravine, fitted with stairs and walkways, which reaches as far as Frías de Albarracín. In the mid-19th century it had 360 inhabitants; today it has 76.
Church of Calomarde
Monument
Church of San Pedro Apóstol of Calomarde, in the Sierra de Albarracín (Teruel), whose antiquity is attested by an inscription carved into one of the stones of its exterior wall. It functions as a parish, served by a priest and a sacristan; the curacy, of second-ascent category, is of royal or diocesan appointment.
Festivities of Calomarde
Activity
The patron saint festivities of Calomarde are celebrated in honour of Saint Giles the Abbot around 18 and 19 August; they were previously held on 2 September. Already in 1846, the description by Pascual Madoz recorded in the municipal district two hermitages, one dedicated precisely to Saint Giles the Abbot and the other to Saint Sebastian the Martyr, which attests to the antiquity of this devotion in the village.
