Bañón
Village
Bañón is a municipality in the Jiloca comarca, in the province of Teruel, at 1,141 metres above sea level and with 152 inhabitants. In 1248, by privilege of James I, the place broke away from Daroca and became part of the Sesma de Barrachina, within the Community of Villages of Daroca, dissolved in 1838. It preserves the parish church of San Juan Bautista, a baroque building from the 17th century, as well as the hermitages of Santiago and Santo Cristo, and has a viewpoint and the Fuente La Zarza as points of interest. Its festivals are spread between San Valero, on 29 January, San Pedro Mártir, on 29 April, San Isidro Labrador, on 15 May, and San Pedro Arbués, on 17 September.
Farinetas and migas of the Jiloca
Food and drink
The farinetas, flour porridge served with pork rashers, and the shepherd's migas with grapes or chorizo make up the subsistence cooking of the high plain. Both are still prepared at popular meals and community gatherings.
