Torre los Negros
Village
Torre los Negros is a small municipality in the Jiloca district, in Teruel, in the Teruel stretch of the Iberian System, at 1,083 metres above sea level, crossed from south to north by the river Pancrudo; its territory, with rugged terrain, is home to excellent-quality water sources, such as the Fuente del Padre Selleras or the Fuente del Enebro. It has 77 inhabitants (INE 2025) and its residents are known as “notaries”, for their popular wisdom. The name seems to come from the demonym “torrero”, perhaps after a frontier fortress said to have been built by Ramón Berenguer IV around the middle of the 12th century. Its territory contains open-air Bronze Age sites, such as Los Abejares or El Raso. Its church of the Asunción, from the 18th century, collapsed in 1935 and was rebuilt from 1945 onwards.
