Rubielos de la Cérida
Village
Rubielos de la Cérida is one of the smallest municipalities in the Jiloca district, in the province of Teruel, situated at 1,240 metres above sea level and almost 77 kilometres from the capital. In 1248, by privilege of James I, it broke away from Daroca and passed to the Sesma de Barrachina, within the Comunidad de Aldeas de Daroca, dissolved in 1838; in the mid-19th century it had 468 inhabitants, far more than today's 20. Its main monument is the church of San Miguel, Gothic-Renaissance from the 16th century, next to the hermitages of Santa Bárbara, Santa Ana and San Cristóbal, and the peirón of San Pedro. Notable also are the Torretón viewpoint and the Rubielos sinkhole. It celebrates its festivities in honour of San Fabián and San Sebastián on 20 January, Santa Bárbara on 4 December and the Virgen de la Merced on 20 August.
