What to see and do in Fuentes Claras

Fuentes Claras
Village
Fuentes Claras is a municipality in the Jiloca comarca, in Teruel, set at 909 metres above sea level on a terrace beside the bed of the Jiloca river, fed by its numerous springs and fountains - known as ojos, or “eyes” - which have given the town its name since its first documentary mention in 1205. It has 428 inhabitants. Five of these bodies of water, known as Las Balsas and linked by irrigation channels, share their habitat with wildlife that includes the red kite, herons and river crayfish. The municipality is also known for having recorded the lowest temperature of any inhabited area in Spain, -30°C, on 17 December 1963. The tower of its church received a baroque spire in 1699, the work of the Madrid master builder Juan Antonio Aparicio.

It preserves an altarpiece of the Rosario from the early 17th century and an organ from 1724 by the organ builder Bartolomé Sánchez.
