Barrachina
Village
Barrachina is a municipality in the Teruel comarca of the Jiloca, at 1,047 metres above sea level and 90 kilometres from Teruel, with 113 inhabitants. In 1248, by privilege of James I, it broke away from its dependency on Daroca and joined the Sesma de Barrachina, within the Community of Villages of Daroca, dissolved in 1838. It preserves the parish church of the Assumption of Our Lady, from the 17th century, beside which, on 6 November 1839, Carlist forces fought a battle leaving 200 dead and 42 prisoners. The municipality also includes sites such as those of the Pancrudo river, the Caseta Redonda and the Peirón de Pedromocho.
Church of Barrachina
Monument
The parish church of Barrachina, dedicated to Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, is a 17th-century stone building on a small hillock, with three naves and four bays, with a central nave of lunette barrel vaulting and a dome on pendentives visible from outside as an octagonal drum; it preserves Baroque altarpieces from the image-carving workshop of the Ascoz family and a 16th-century parish cross.
