What to see and do in Torrijo del Campo

Torrijo del Campo
Village
Torrijo del Campo is a municipality in the Jiloca district, in the province of Teruel, situated right in the valley of the river Jiloca at 924 metres above sea level, with 501 inhabitants. Its name, from the Latin “torrecilla”, suggests it was a frontier watch post; it was called “Torrijos” between 1495 and 1646, “Torrijo” until 1797, and added “del Campo” from 1834 onwards. The territory preserves archaeological remains from various periods, such as the Iberian settlement of the cerro del Moro or the site of the Balseta. In 1996 a bronze plaque bearing an Iberian inscription, the Bronze of Torrijo, was found on the Huertos Altos path, and is now kept in the Museum of Teruel.
