What to see and do in Sarrión

Sarrión
Village
Sarrión is a municipality in the province of Teruel, in the comarca of Gúdar-Javalambre, with 1261 inhabitants and famous for its black truffle. It sits at 981 m above sea level between the Mijares river valley and the Javalambre mountain range. Its origins go back to a Celtiberian settlement, and a Roman road between Bilbilis and Saguntum once ran through its territory. A defensive stronghold of the Alto Mijares in the Middle Ages, it was reconquered from the Muslims in the 13th century. In 1843 the Carlists blew up six of its seven gates; only the Portal de Teruel still stands, beside the church of San Pedro.
