What to see and do in San Agustín

San Agustín
Village
San Agustín is a municipality in Gúdar-Javalambre, province of Teruel, at 959 metres above sea level and with 132 inhabitants (INE 2025), on the foothills of the Sistema Ibérico, between the Pina de Montalgrao, Javalambre and Gúdar mountain ranges, crossed by the Mijares and Maimona rivers. Its municipal area, repopulated in the Early Middle Ages after the reconquest by Peter II of Aragon, includes scattered hamlets such as La Hoz, Los Peiros and Tarín Nuevo. The Mijares valley, to the north, forms a gorge in Tertiary limestone with a canyon more than 200 metres deep, alongside Quaternary travertine terraces. The village is presided over by the Baroque church of San Agustín, from the 17th century, with three naves of barrel vaults, amid holm oaks, oaks and Spanish junipers.
Church of San Agustín
Monument
The church of San Agustín, in the eponymous municipality in the Teruel comarca of Gúdar-Javalambre, rises standing out above the hamlet, with the volumes typical of a Baroque church built in the 17th century. It consists of three naves covered by a barrel vault with lunettes, except for the main chapel, which is closed by a sail vault. The portal is defined by pilasters decorated with Mannerist panels, and the tower is made up of two tiers: the lower one in masonry, with ashlar blocks reinforcing the corners, and the bell tier, in brick.
Festivities of San Agustín
Activity
Festivities of San Agustín (Gúdar-Javalambre, Teruel), which mark two annual dates: the third weekend of May, in honour of the Virgen de Pradas, around the Pradas hermitage, with religious events and mobile discos; and at the end of August, in honour of San Agustín, with communal meals, activities for children and for older people, bands, bulls with flaming balls on their horns (toros embolados) and young cows (vaquillas), as well as religious events.
