What to see and do in Rubielos de Mora

Rubielos de Mora
Village
Rubielos de Mora is a town in the comarca of Gúdar-Javalambre, in the province of Teruel, with 600 inhabitants (INE 2025) and a historic ensemble declared a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection), sister town to Mora de Rubielos. Located on the southern foothills of the sierra de Gúdar, at an altitude of 929 metres, it preserves remains of Roman origin and an urban layout formed in the 13th century around the castle, with streets branching out from three entrance gateways. In the 17th century the parish church and the Carmelite convent were built, and the prosperous local nobility financed much of the palaces and manor houses of its heritage. During the First Carlist War, in 1835, it was the scene of a violent struggle in which General Cabrera ended the lives of 72 defenders.
