What to see and do in Olba

Olba
Village
Olba is a municipality in Teruel, in Gúdar-Javalambre, on the border with the Valencian Community, on the banks of the río Mijares, near the Arenoso-Montanejos reservoir, at an altitude of 659 metres. Its church of Santa Catalina houses the mausoleum of Tadeo Calomarde, destroyed during the Civil War and partially restored. The municipality is characterised by the great dispersal of its population centres: besides the village of Olba, numerous neighbourhoods and hamlets are spread along the valley, such as Los Lucas or Los Ramones, the so-called “barrios altos”, most of them now abandoned. The earliest settlement is attributed to the Celtiberians, and the historian P. Francisco Diago recorded in 1612 the ruins of an ancient Celtiberian city with its castle, a possible origin of the present-day place name.

Olive oil of the Mijares valley
Food and drink
In the lowest and mildest sector of the comarca, beside the Mijares, terraced olive groves are preserved that supply small oil mills. The resulting oil, of short production, is consumed above all in the villages of the valley themselves.
