What to see and do in Cedrillas

Cedrillas
Village
Cedrillas is a municipality in the comarca of the Comunidad de Teruel, at 1,364 metres above sea level, through whose territory flows the Mijares river, which rises at El Castellar. Its name comes from the resin extracted from trees locally called cedars —probably juniper (enebro de la miera) or white savin—, used for perfumes and cosmetics. It preserves a medieval castle that was of importance in the War of the Two Pedros and in the conquest of Valencia by James I, and the church of El Salvador, built during the agricultural expansion of the 16th century. In 1892, under mayor Luciano Redón, the livestock fair was moved from Alcalá de la Selva to Cedrillas at the initiative of the livestock farmer Joaquín Julián Catalán de Ocón, and it is still held every autumn. It has 652 inhabitants.
