Corbalán
Village
Corbalán, in the comarca of Comunidad de Teruel, stands at an altitude of 1,261 metres amid a forest of juniper trees and has 117 inhabitants. Within its municipal area lies the Baronía de Escriche, with the Casa Grande as its central hub, and the farmhouses of La Casa Baja, El Espinal, La Hita and La Rinconada, remains of the former municipality of Escriche, annexed to Corbalán after its depopulation. The village also preserves the recently restored hermitage of the Virgen del Castillo, and vestiges of Moorish fortifications in the ravine of La Hoz, where around 1770 Francisco de Alba lived in a cave. Its festivals are celebrated on 13 June, in honour of San Antonio de Padua, on 21 October, dedicated to the Virgen del Castillo, and in August, on the weekend closest to San Bartolomé.
