Allepuz
Village
Allepuz is a mountain municipality in the Teruel Maestrazgo, with 123 inhabitants, at 1,474 metres above sea level, one of the highest in the comarca; according to Miguel Asín Palacios, its name comes from the Arabic al-labuus, meaning cuirass. Located at the gateway to the Maestrazgo from Teruel towards Cantavieja, it is crossed by the Sollavientos river, the only one in the comarca that flows not into the Ebro but into the Turia, and dotted with springs such as that of Santa Isabel or that of los Berros. The valley, closed off to the east by the heights of the Morrón and La Nave, preserves masías of medieval origin; of the nearly forty the municipality once had, barely half a dozen remain inhabited. It was crown land, part of the Comunidad de Aldeas de Teruel, until the provincial division of 1833.
