Ababuj
Village
Ababuj is a small municipality in the comarca of the Comunidad de Teruel, with 73 inhabitants, situated at almost 1,370 metres above sea level between the sierra del Pobo, to the west, and the Alfambra river, to the east, which forms the boundary with Jorcas. The Seco river also flows through its territory, opening a gorge of limestone materials bordered by poplars next to the municipal seat. Documented as Fabbatux in 1269, the village's name changed several times —Ababuix in 1385, Fabaux in 1543— until settling into its current form in 1722. It was crown land, part of the Comunidad de Aldeas de Teruel. It preserves the Torre Vieja and the parish church of Santa Ana, from the 16th century, with a barrel vault with lunettes and a Plateresque doorway, and in its territory there is a site with dinosaur footprints (ichnites).
