What to see and do in Aguilar del Alfambra

Aguilar del Alfambra
Village
Aguilar del Alfambra is a municipality of the Comunidad de Teruel, with 82 inhabitants, at 1,302 metres above sea level, in a flat dry-farming territory devoted to cereals except along the banks of the Alfambra river. It is mentioned as Aguilar in a document from 1212, and was crown land, included in the Comunidad de Aldeas de Teruel, until the provincial division of 1833; its name was completed as Aguilar del Alfambra in the 1916 reform of the municipal gazetteer. It today lives off agriculture, livestock farming and small businesses such as a cheese dairy and a guesthouse. It preserves the church of San Pedro Apóstol and celebrates its patronal festivals between late June and August, with a climb to the hermitage of la Peña and the running of cows and fire-horned bulls (toros embolados).
Church of Aguilar del Alfambra
Monument
Parish church of San Pedro Apóstol of Aguilar del Alfambra (Teruel), whose patronal feast is celebrated on 29 June. A 19th-century description of the village records it as a single-nave church with a Latin-cross plan, with several altars that were at the time considered of little artistic merit.
