What to see and do in Camarillas

Camarillas
Village
Camarillas is a mountain municipality of the Comunidad de Teruel, in the Iberian System, at 1,314 metres above sea level; its highest point, the Muela de Camarillas, reaches 1,454 metres. It is crossed by the Camarón or Pinilla river, a tributary of the Alfambra, which at their confluence has formed the Calderetas, giant's kettles carved by fluvial erosion. Above the village stands the castle of Camarillas, built during the War of the Two Pedros (1356-1369), and also preserved are the church of the Virgen del Castillo and the sanctuary of the Virgen del Campo. Cretaceous fossils have been found in its territory, among them those of the dinosaur Camarillasaurus. Its economy, agricultural and livestock-based, today also includes rural tourism. It has 100 inhabitants (INE 2025).
Church of Camarillas
Monument
Church of la Virgen del Castillo, from the 18th century and Baroque style, with three naves, a crossing, lunette barrel vaults and a dome over the crossing, with stucco decoration. Declared a monument of cultural interest by the Government of Aragon in 1982, it has suffered severe structural damage since the 1980s — the collapse of vaults and roof — that has left it in ruins; worship was moved to the hermitage of San Roque.
